Writers of "Mundane" Science Fiction set stories on or near the Earth and utilize technology as we know or can foresee it. Forecasting interstellar travel, alternate realities and alien life as unlikely, Mundanes excise the implications from their writing - no interstellar travel, trade associations, or war. The resources we have are precious and finite.
Made concrete by Julian Todd and popularized by Geoff Ryman, the manifesto makes for interesting debate.
Check out the Mundane blog here (including a list of "accidental" contributors to the cause - William Gibson, JG Ballard, Philip K Dick, Michael Swanwick, Gene Wolfe, etc) and Ian McDonald's reaction here.
