I recently read "Mainspring", a crackling good science-fantasy by short story wunderkind Jay Lake. It's an engaging, steam-punk romp that reminded me of Monster Blood Tattoo, one of my favorite new books last year. The cover, by Stephan Martinere, is amazing.
