I've settled more or less on a title for the book - "Black Poplar". It's a reference to both a scene in the book as well as a broader reference to the mythical properties of the Black Poplar leaf itself - sacred to the Goddess Hecate, light on side and dark on the other, a symbol of the transition between worlds. It's a idea f0r a novel about a mess of characters living on the thresholds between worlds: Teenagers and outmoded gods. Suburbanites. Students. Wierdos and magicians.
It also has the bonus of having the word "Black" in the title. Which has always got to be a good thing for a work of darker, urban fantasy.
Best yet, it appears that no one else has yet to claim it as their own.
I've got a running list of title options and may well change my mind a hundred times before any real decisions have to be made, but it's nice to have something to anchor my thinking with.
Next time I get a chance, I'll blog all the really and truly inexcusable ideas I had for a title. We'll call it an excercise in humilty and documentation for posterity.
